Watch: A Foreigner’s First Izakaya Experience:

Japanese food covers an enormous range of variety, far more than you could realistically try during a short trip. That’s exactly what makes an izakaya worth visiting: since dishes are served in small portions meant for sharing, you can try many different things in a single sitting rather than committing to just one dish. If you haven’t been to one yet, we’d genuinely encourage you to go, it’s one of the best ways to experience the everyday Japanese food that we ourselves eat regularly.
