Beautiful Scenery in Japan
In this blog, I will gradually introduce some of the beautiful scenery of Japan that I have photographed myself over the years.
This is a photograph I took at Zao Fox Village in Miyagi Prefecture.
Of course, it is not something you would normally experience in everyday life to see so many foxes up close, and this type of facility is apparently unique in Japan. I think it is a particularly fascinating and special place for animal lovers.
There seem to be between six and eight types of foxes, with around 100 to 250 foxes in total. They can be found resting in various places throughout the village or freely walking around the grounds.
However, you generally cannot pet the foxes. Even though they are accustomed to people, they are not the same as dogs, so you need to be careful when interacting with them.
Of course, the staff will explain how to interact with the foxes when you enter the village. As long as you carefully follow their instructions, you should be able to avoid being bitten or having a fox grab your smartphone and run away with it.
There is also an area where you can feed the foxes, which makes the experience even more enjoyable.
By the way, the Zao area, where Zao Fox Village is located, is famous for its beautiful snow-covered trees, known as juhyō, during the winter. There are also tours that take you by snow vehicle to the higher parts of the Zao mountain range to see these snow-covered trees, so you may want to consider visiting the area for that experience as well.
I have also stayed at a hot spring hotel called Chikusenso, located near this area, and I highly recommend it. It is a beautiful hot spring resort where you can enjoy a relaxing and peaceful stay.
